I love Tsai’s approach to reveal interviewees’ unspeakable joy and shame, by simply blowing up their facial features, usually unpleasant ones, being as flaw as they get. It’s courageous behavior art.
An honest film! Skateboarding is a shaky roof, temporarily sheltering boys from their shakier daily lives. Skateboarding is also a filter, sifting through kids from diverse colors and successfully singling out the lower class. Finally, skateboarding is only heading forward, leaving what has been past behind.
